The HEDDphone® features the world's first full-range AMT driver. By use of unique VVT technology, our open-back design delivers astonishing transparency and ultra-high resolution. It was designed for production, mastering and high-end audiophile applications. The HEDDphone® is handmade in Berlin, Germany. We only use high-quality, vegan-friendly materials.

The HEDDphone is a cutting edge innovative headphone for recording artists, music producers, and audiophiles. Boasting beautiful and hand-crafted Made in Germany components, it also represents the first full-range capable headphone based on the companies signature technology: The Air Motion Transformer (AMT). As opposed to common voice coil, planar, or electrostatic designs, the AMT is based on a super-light Kapton diaphragm. It consists of multiple folds of variable shapes, which squeeze the air in and out, causing it to accelerate by a factor of roughly 3. The result as an open, hyper-detailed and realistic representation of the original signal.
30 years ago HEDD founder Klaus Heinz designed the first compact and marketable AMT tweeter based on American-German Physicist Oskar Heil’s original Air Motion Transformer invention. Since then, Heinz has increased its sonic quality in several fundamental revisions for his loudspeaker tweeter designs at ADAM Audio and HEDD. In 2019 Heinz has started developing a full range Air Motion Transformer to break new grounds for this superior transducer principle.
HEDDphone excels where it really matters: accurate, untamed, and touching music reproduction. It brings the enormous dynamic capabilities and the superior sonic resolution of the AMT principle to the world of top-end headphones.

Air Motion Transformer
For the HEDDphone we have developed a new full-range Air Motion Transformer. As opposed to planar, dynamic or electro-static drivers, it is based on a pleated Kapton diaphragm, which is folded into a magnetic field. Air is sucked in and squeezed out in every single fold, accelerating the air significantly. The sonic benefits are a faster transient response and greater treble extension, increasing precision, clarity and ultimately, realism in audio reproduction.
Variable Velocity Transformation
To achieve an even frequency response across the entire audible frequency range, we refined the original design by adding new geometries and a more complex system of variable sized folds. We call this approach VVT – Variable Velocity Transform.
Designed and Made in Berlin
The HEDDphone was developed from scratch in Berlin. Due to the precise folding technique and careful implementation of this unique design, the HEDDphone is handmade with great care and attention to detail like no machine is capable of. All sourced materials are of high quality, like the vegan pleather pads.
